Hearts on fire!

Scripture reading for April 13th:  Judges 12-16, Psalm 146, Luke 24

Key Scriptures:  Luke 24:30-33  “When He was at table with them, He took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them.  And their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him.  And He vanished from their sight.  They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the road, while He opened to us the Scriptures?”  And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem.

After His resurrection, Jesus sought out His disciples to reassure them of His resurrection and the fulfillment of Scripture.  He joined up with two of them on their way to Emmaus.  Jesus joined in their conversation about the events of their past few days.  As they explained their difficulty understanding the women who had visited the grave of Jesus and found it empty, Jesus gently rebuked them for their unbelief and expounded the Scriptures concerning Himself.  He then joined them for supper and took the bread and blessed, broke and gave it to them.  This opened their eyes to recognize Jesus and they remembered how their hearts burned as He opened the Word of God.

Faith Confession and prayer:  Lord Jesus, thank You for the Holy Spirit, who opens the Scriptures to me each day as I read and walk with You.  Set my heart on fire with Your love, mercy and truth.

Judges 13:20 “And when the flame went up toward heaven from the altar, the angel of the Lord went up in the flame of the altar.  Now Manoah and his wife were watching, and they fell on their faces to the ground.”

Psalm 146:10 “The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the Lord!”
