Pressing in to receive!
Scripture reading for January 11th: Genesis 19-20, Psalm 1, Mark 7
Mark 7:31-36 “Then He returned from the region of Tyre and went through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, in the region of the Decapolis. And they brought to Him a man who was deaf and had a speech impediment, and they begged Him to lay His hand on him. And taking him aside from the crowd privately, He put His fingers into his ears, and after spitting touched his tongue. And looking up to heaven, He sighed and said to him, “Ephphatha,” that is, “Be opened.” And his ears were opened, his tongue released, and he spoke plainly. And Jesus charged them to tell no one. But the more he charged them, the more zealously they proclaimed it.”
Jesus had gone into the region of the Gentiles around the Sea of Galilee. In spite of His desire to remain out of sight, He had healed the daughter of a Syrophoenician woman who had pressed in to lay hold of a better life for her demon-possessed daughter. Jesus was next sought out by friends of a man who was deaf and had a speech impediment. They approached Jesus and begged Him to lay his hands on their friend. Jesus took him aside and ministered personally to the man by placing fingers in his deaf ears and spitting on His own finger and touching the man’s mute tongue. At the simple command of Jesus, the ears were opened, his tongue was loosed, and he was made whole! Again Jesus wanted to remain anonymous and told him not to tell anyone. But who can remain silent when they can now hear and speak! Praise Jesus for bringing abundant life, even to the Gentiles!
Genesis 20:17 “Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech, and also healed his wife and female slaves so that they bore children.”

Psalm 1:1-3 “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on His law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”
