Scripture reading for May 25th: Ephesians 2
Key Scriptures: Ephesians 2:4-9 “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ–by grace you have been saved–and raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages He might show the immeasurable riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
Boasting is the result of pride in our own ability or accomplishment. We may have reason to boast in some things, but never in relation to our salvation from the penalty of sin and our adoption into God’s family. Salvation is a gift given by a generous and loving Father God through the sacrifice of His only Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. The only thing we can do is receive the gift by faith and say “thank You”. Those who receive with show forth God’s amazing grace and goodness throughout eternity. Our only boast is in our Lord’s amazing grace gift to us who are undeserved sinners. To Him be all glory, honor and praise, now and forever and ever!
Ephesians 2:18-19 “For through Him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, . . .”
Faith confession and prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of salvation and eternal life. We boast in Your great love and mercy and are so thankful to be adopted into the household of God. Let Your love flow through me to others that they might also enjoy salvation and boast in You forever and ever.
Ephesians 2:22 “In Him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.”
