Seek the lost sheep!

Scripture reading for July 29th: Joel, Matthew 10

Matthew 10: 1, 5-8 “And He called to Him His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every affliction. . . . These twelve Jesus sent out instructing them, “Go nowhere among the Gentiles and enter no town of the Samaritans, but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. An proclaim as you go, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying; give without pay.”

In response to their own praying to Father God for laborers to go into His harvest field, Jesus now instructs His twelve chosen disciples, including Judas, to go out to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. They were to go proclaiming the kingdom of heaven was at hand–now appearing in Christ and those who were His disciples. Not only that, they were given authority to heal all sickness and diseases and to cast out demons in demonstration of God’s kingdom authority and compassionate rule. They were especially sent to lost sheep–those Israelites in need of compassion and harassed by Satan and sickness and sin.

Matthew 10:40 “Whoever receives you receives Me, and whoever receives Me receives Him Who sent Me.”

Prayer: Father God, Your amazing mission of saving the lost sheep and using those You call and equip is dear to me. Thank You for those You used in my life to declare God’s kingdom and to minister healing and deliverance. Thank You that all benefits in the Kingdom are received by grace through faith–they can’t be bought or bargained for. I am in awe that though my witness, I represent You to lost people like the prophets of old and the disciples of our Lord!

Joel 2:12 “”Yet even now,” declares the Lord, “return to Me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; and rend your hearts and not your garments.” Return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love; and He relents over disaster.””

Joy in a sinners salvation!

Scripture reading for March 22:  Luke 15, Psalm 59, Proverbs 28

Key Scriptures: Luke 15:8-10 “”Or what woman, having ten silver coins, if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until she finds it?  And when she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.  Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.””

In response to the grumbling of the Pharisees about Jesus’ eating with sinners and tax collectors, Jesus told several parables to explain God’s heart for those that were lost.  The first was about a sheep that was lost out of a flock of one hundred.  The shepherd searched until he found it and held a celebration when he did.  Next, a woman had ten silver coins and lost one.  She searched until she found it and had a party of celebration afterwards.  Jesus said this was how it was in heaven when one lost sinner repented!

Faith Confession:  Lord, I rejoice when anyone that is lost finds Jesus Christ as savior!  It is comforting to know that You and heaven’s angels rejoice as well!  Action step:  Share the Gospel with someone you know is lost today, with joy and expectancy that they will obtain mercy!

Proverbs 28:13 “Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.”

Heaven rejoices!

Scripture reading for April 12th: Luke 15:1-32

Heaven is a wonderful place where there is no death, crying, pain or suffering.  There is joy unspeakable and the glorious presence of God filling the atmosphere.  There is no need of light from sun or moon, because God’s glorious presence actually lights up the place!  (Revelation 21:1-7)  (Revelation 22:4-5)  What could cause a place like heaven to break forth with exceeding rejoicing?  What event here on earth actually provokes a joyous response in heaven?   Today’s reading gives us revelation about these amazing outbursts of joy!

Jesus told three parables to counter the accusation of the Pharisees and Law teachers: “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” The first parable was the lost sheep of the shepherd with ninety-nine safely in the fold.  This shepherd left the flock in search of the lost one and found it.  He was full of joy and placed the scared sheep on his shoulders and went home.  When there, he called a party and had a celebration with his neighbors and friends!  This parable was a picture of what happens in heaven when one sinner is found!  “I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner that repents than over ninety-nine that do not need to repent.” (Luke 15:7)

A second parable involved a coin lost in a woman’s house from ten coins she had saved.  She searched diligently until she found the lost coin.  She called all her friends and neighbors and had a party! “In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” (Luke 15:10)  As a coin of that day bore the image of the King, so each person bears the image of God.  God rejoices when they are safely home!

The final story was of the lost son.  This prodigal had left his father and taken his inheritance and then wasted it.  He found himself in a pigpen and then decided to repent and go home to his father.  Father ran to greet him, kissed him, and restored him.  He killed the fattened calf and threw a party.  The lost son had come home!  This is what causes heaven to rejoice!  Isn’t it time to come home to Father’s house?   What a party awaits and heaven loves to rejoice when the lost return!

This man eats with sinners!

Scripture reading for October 24th: Luke 13-15

“Now the tax collectors and “sinners” were all gathering around to hear Him (Jesus).  But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” Luke15:1-2

Are you a person who welcomes sinners?  Are you comfortable around those that the culture would consider outcasts or unacceptable?  Would those who are “sinners” see you as a person that they would feel comfortable hanging out with?  Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to seek and save the “lost” of this world.

When He walked the earth, He sought out people who were open to His message of the Kingdom.  It was on one of those occasions that Jesus responded to the muttering of the religious leaders about His hanging around sinners.  He told them three parables to help them understand the heart of God for those who were lost.  The first parable was about a man who had a hundred sheep and found out that one of them was missing.  He left the main flock to go and search for the lost sheep.  When he found that lost sheep, he called friends and neighbors together and celebrated!  The moral of this story was that there was joy in heaven over one lost person being restored!  (Luke 15:7)

Another parable concerned a woman who had lost one of ten silver coins.  She searched diligently in her house until finding it and then invited friends to rejoice with her for her restored fortune!  The same bottom line is emphasized.  There is joy in heaven over one sinner who repents!  (Luke 15:10)

The final parable concerned a man who had two sons.  One wanted his inheritance right now.  His father gave him the money and he left to squander it on loose living.  He ended up eating with pigs to satisfy his hunger!  This lost son decided to go back to his father and beg for mercy. The father was watching for his lost son, saw him coming, and ran to meet him.  After a brief apology, the father restored this son and threw a party of celebration!

We truly have a friend in Jesus Christ.  He loves lost people.  Our Father in heaven sent Him to help those willing to return to Father’s House.  If you are not “home”, reach out to Him today!  His arms are open wide!
