Blessings through Christ Jesus

Scripture reading for August 30th:  Psalms 136-139 and Ephesians 6

Key Scriptures: Ephesians 6:23-24  “Peace be to the brothers and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.  Grace be with all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with love incorruptible.”

Paul closed his letter to the Ephesians with a blessing.  He gave them a blessing of peace.  Our Lord Jesus promised His disciples that “in Me you may have peace.”  (John 16:33)  He gave them the blessing of “love with faith.”  Love never fails and faith works by love.  He blessed them with grace–grace that would cover all those who loved Jesus Christ, the loving and faithful Son of God.

Psalm 138:1-2 “I give You thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing Your praise; I bow down toward Your Holy Temple and give thanks to Your Name for Your steadfast love and Your faithfulness, for You have exalted above all things Your Name and Your Word.”

Prayer:    Lord, thank You for Your love and faithfulness!  I receive the blessing of Your peace, love, faithfulness, and amazing grace!  Amen.

Sunday rest and reflection!

Sunday June 22nd, 2014

Dear Friends,

Mary and I would like to thank all who prayed and sent us notes and encouragement this past week.  My father went home to the Lord last Saturday night and we had a wonderful home-going service on Wednesday.  We could feel the prayers and God’s presence was with us in a special way.  My mom, after 68 years of marriage,  is working through this with God’s help.

Jesus is the Hope of all the earth!  In Him, all families of the earth find true blessings of righteousness and peace!  His Kingdom is a kingdom of righteousness and peace based on His eternal love and faithfulness!  Let us gather to worship, pray, and honor His Word as it is taught and preached!  The King is coming soon!

In His Love,

Pastor John and Mary

Our kissing Brother!

Scripture reading for June 20th: Psalms 84-89

“Love and faithfulness meet together, righteousness and peace kiss each other.  Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven.  The Lord will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest.  Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps.” Psalms 85:10-13

Psalm 85 is a prayer by the sons of Korah for revival after a time of judgment.  God’s people had gotten into trouble because of sins and God had shown his displeasure towards them in some obvious manner.  The psalmist began by reminding God of His past restoration of His people. (Psalm 85:1-3)  If God’s people met the requirements of repentance and faith, God would act again to bring the desired revival!

The psalmist asked God boldly to restore and revive the people of God again!  The psalmist asked God if He planed on staying angry forever?  What a bold question from an elder who desired restoration for his children and grandchildren!  He asked that God show His unfailing love and salvation to them, reminding God of His covenant love.

The psalmist was willing to wait and listen for God’s answer.  He remembered God’s promises of peace to His people. (Psalm 85:8)  He prayed that God’s people would not return to their folly that brought the judgment of God.  True repentance is a turning away from sin and facing  God and His ways.  When we truly repent, we draw near to God and He draws near to us!  A broken and contrite heart He will not despise! (Psalm 51:17)

This psalm concludes with a beautiful picture of God’s character traits kissing each other!  Love and faithfulness go together.  True lovers never abandon one another!  Righteousness and peace kiss each other!  True peace can only come through righteousness.  On a different level, these traits did spring forth from the earth in the person of the Son of God, Jesus Christ!  God’s love and covenant faithfulness caused Him to send forth His only son to demonstrate that love to a lost world!  Righteousness and peace kissed each other in the Son of God!   He is our “kissing” brother!  May you enjoy the full harvest from your land as you walk in faithfulness and love, enjoying righteousness and peace!

Kissing cousins!

(Psalm85:1-3)  If God’s people met the requirements of repentance and faith, God would act again to bring the desired restoration!

The psalmist asked God boldly to restore and revive the people of God again!  We must ask the Lord for what we want and need.  The psalmist, an elder who was thinking of his children and grandchildren,  asked God if He planned on staying angry forever?   He asked that God show His unfailing love and salvation to them.

The psalmist then stated his patience to wait and listen for God’s answer.  He again remembered God’s promises of peace to His people. (Psalm 85:8)  He prayed that his people would not return to their folly that brought God’s judgment.  True repentance is a turning away from sin and facing  God.  When we truly repent, we draw near to God and God to us!  A broken and contrite heart He will not despise! The psalmist asked God boldly to restore and revive the people of God again!  We must ask the Lord for what we want and need.  The psalmist asks God if He plans on staying angry forever, through all generations.  What a bold question from an elder who desires restoration for his children and grandchildren!  He asked that God show His unfailing love and salvation to them, reminding God of His covenant love that was never to fail.
