Overcoming unbelief!

Scripture reading for February 22nd:  Mark 9

Key scriptures for over-comers:  Mark 9:21-24  “Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?”  “From childhood,” he answered.  “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him.  But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”  “‘If you can?'” said Jesus.  “Everything is possible for him who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief.”

This demon possessed boy’s father had brought his child to the disciples for deliverance, but they were unable to help him.  When Jesus arrived back with Peter, James and John, from the glorious transformation experience, He ministered to this man and his son.  He heard the explanation of the demon trying to kill the boy and found out that this condition existed from childhood.  We are not told how this happened, except that this boy’s life was in grave danger from these demonic attacks.

As Jesus was talking with this father, the man humbly asked Him, “If you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”  Jesus quickly corrected his wavering statement of “If”  with a promise that “Everything is possible for him who believes.”  This desperate man caught on quickly, stating his faith and asking for help with his human unbelief!  Jesus met him where he was and his son was delivered!

Observations for over-comers:  Sometimes our human tendencies to question God’s ability creep into our reasoning in difficult situations.  Ask the Holy Spirit to bring quick correction and help to stand firm!  “I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills His purpose for me.  He sends from heaven and saves me, rebuking those who hotly pursue me, God sends His love and faithfulness.”  (Psalm 57:2-3)
