Tag: Matthew 27:51-54
Scripture reading for February 6th: Matthew 27, Psalm 27, Proverbs 27
Key Scriptures: Matthew 27:51-54 “And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. And the earth shook, and the rocks were split. The tombs also were opened. And many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many. When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!””
Matthew described the events that took place immediately after Jesus cried out for the last time and gave up His Spirit. First, the temple veil was torn, from top to bottom revealing the Holy of Holies. Then there was a great earthquake, shaking rocks to pieces and opening sealed tombs, as well as a resurrection of saints from those tombs who showed themselves to many in the city. The centurion and troops overseeing the crucifixion saw these events and made a faith confession: “Truly this was the Son of God!”
Faith’s confession: I believe that the death of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, opened the way for me to experience the presence of God. I have a down payment now with the Holy Spirit in me but will fully experience Jesus at the resurrection and rapture.
Proverbs 27:12 “The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it.”
