Scripture reading for August 24th: Jeremiah 23-26
Key Scriptures: Jeremiah 23:3-6 “The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will raise up to David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land. In His days Judah will be saved and Israel will live in safety. This is the name by which He will be called: The Lord Our righteousness.”
God revealed to Jeremiah a coming time when He would raise up from King David’s line another “Branch”, who would be a King who would rule with wisdom and justice. In this King’s days, Judah would be saved and Israel would be protected. This King would be called by the Name: “The Lord our Righteousness”! This is none other than Jesus Christ, again foretold prophetically over 600 years in advance. Because He was truly righteous, in Him we can have true righteousness through faith!
Rejoice in the King’s Righteousness: “What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ–the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.” (Philippians 3:8-9)
