Sabbath Worker!
Scripture reading for October 20th: John 5, Psalm 60, Proverbs 24
John 5: 12-17 “They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take up your bed and walk’?” Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, as there was a crowd in the place. Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse happen to you.” The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus Who had healed him. And this was why the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because He was doing these things on the Sabbath. But Jesus answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I am working.””
The religious Jews were always looking for a way to trap Jesus and accuse Him of wrong-doing. Their laws were strictly observed and law-breakers punished. However, they missed the Spirit of the Law, love for God and our neighbors. Jesus went to Jerusalem for a feast and found a man lame for thirty-eight years. He asked him if he wanted to be well. The man told Jesus he had no one to help him get into the healing pool. Jesus simply told him to take up his bed and walk. Immediately, he was healed. It was a Sabbath day when Jesus did this miracle, and the Jews were on it. Jesus answered the Jews, telling them that His Father and He were both at work, tending to the hurting and lost. That ‘work’ personified ‘love’. Jesus warned the man to sin no more that something worse might befall him.
Psalm 60:11-12 “Oh, grant us help against the foe, for vain is the salvation of man! With God we shall do valiantly; it is He Who will tread down our foes.”
Prayer: Father God, thank You for sending Your Son to show us the Father’s heart to work healing and restoration for the hurting and lost. Thank You for showing religious people the true heart of the God Who created heaven and earth. Use me today to tend to Your hurting people in the vineyard of this world. As You and Your Son Jesus are working, lay out work for me to restore Your people to fruitfulness.
Proverbs 24:30-31 “I passed by the field of a sluggard, by the vineyard of a man lacking sense, and behold, it was all overgrown with thorns; the ground was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down.”
The Lord stands by His own!
Scripture reading for May 16th: 2nd Samuel 6, 1st Chronicles 13, Psalm 60, Acts 23
Acts 23:11-15 “The following night the Lord stood by him (Paul) and said, “Take courage, for as you have testified to the facts about Me in Jerusalem, so you must testify also in Rome.” When it was day, the Jews made a plot and bound themselves by an oath neither to eat nor drink till they had killed Paul. There were more than forty who made this conspiracy. They went to the chief priests and elders and said, “We have strictly bound ourselves by an oath to taste no food till we have killed Paul. Now therefore you, along with the council, give notice to the tribune to bring him down to you, as though you were going to determine his case more exactly. And we are ready to kill him before he comes near.””
Paul went to Jerusalem under the leading of the Holy Spirit and was arrested by the religious leaders and brought before the council. As promised by God, he was given words to say and insight. Paul declared that he was a Pharisee himself, and was on trial because of his belief in the resurrection of the dead. This triggered a dispute between the members of the council, Sadducee and Pharisee. It became so violent that soldiers rescued Paul and put him in the barracks. Jesus met him there that night and encouraged Paul that God’s plans would take him to Rome to testify as well. Well planned schemes and oaths of Paul’s enemies to kill him came to nothing. Jesus stands by His people against all foes! Amen!

Prayer: Father God, thank You for bringing courage to Your servants when they face trials and opposition. Help us, like King David, to worship You with all our strength each day as we bear Your presence in us by the Holy Spirit! We know You indwell us and support us and give us words for those who oppose! Stand close by me today!

So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the horn.” As the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal the daughter of Saul looked out of the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord, and she despised him in her heart.”
Jesus alone saves!
Scripture reading for March 25: Luke 16, Psalm 60, Proverbs 29
Key Scriptures: Luke 16:16-17 “”The Law and the Prophets were until John; since then the good news of the kingdom of God is preached and everyone forces his way into it. But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away than for one dot of the Law to become void.””
Jesus always taught God’s Word in truth and confronted those who were not obeying the true meaning of that Word. The Pharisees had a habit of judging Jesus and making fun of His teaching. They used the Word of God to manipulate people for money, thinking that they were superior to ordinary sinners. They judged some ‘sinners’ as unworthy of salvation. In these verses, Jesus stated that God’s Law and the Prophets writing would never become obsolete. It cannot be altered or used to force our way into God’s kingdom or to keep ‘sinners’ out. The ‘good news’ was that all sinners could receive mercy by faith in Jesus.
Faith Confession: Lord, thank You for the good news of the Gospel of Your kingdom! Help me to live a life of faith and deliver me from compromise or manipulation of Your Word!
