God’s power displayed through weakness

Scripture reading for October 3rd: Jeremiah 11-13, 2nd Corinthians 12

2nd Corinthians 12: 7-9 “So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

Paul shared with the Church at Corinth how God had graciously caught him up into heaven and given him revelations that no one else had received and could not be revealed to others. Along with this special grace from God, God permitted Paul to be buffeted by a messenger from Satan who afflicted Paul in his flesh. Paul prayed three times for healing and relief, but God told him simply, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” This satisfied Paul and Paul began to boast not in the revelations but in his own weaknesses that the power of Christ might rest upon him to preach the unsearchable riches of Christ Jesus and see souls saved, no matter what the affliction, hardship, or persecution he was experiencing.

2nd Corinthians 12:10For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

Prayer: Father God, thank You for Your amazing and faithful grace towards me and Your people. Thank You for testing our hearts and drawing us closer to You through trials and weaknesses and even messengers of Satan bringing afflictions in our flesh. I invite You to show Yourself strong in my weaknesses, which are many. Use me to proclaim Your power and might through Jesus Christ today.

Jeremiah 12:1-3 “Righteous are You, O Lord, when I complain to you; yet I would plead my case before You. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all who are treacherous thrive? You plant them, and they take root; they grow and produce fruit; you are near in their mouth and far from their heart. But you, O Lord. know me; You see me, and test my heart toward you.”
