Thankful for God’s Amazing Love!

Scripture reading for September 22nd:  Hosea 1-5

Key Scriptures:  Hosea 3:1-2  “The Lord said to me, “Go, show your love to your wife again, though she is loved by another and is an adulteress.  Love her as the Lord loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and love the sacred raisin cakes.”  So I bought her for fifteen shekels of silver and about a homer and a lethek of barley.  Then I told her, “You are to live with me many days; you must not be a prostitute or be intimate with any man, and I will live with you.””

Hosea was instructed by God to find his adulterous wife and show her love again, buying her back from her slavery and indebtedness. Hosea was to demonstrate God’s great and amazing love for His adulterous people, who were in slavery to idolatry and uncleanness. So Hosea obeyed the Lord and bought his wife back, instructing her to remain faithful and live with him.  This is a picture of the redemption that God accomplished through His Son, Jesus Christ, who demonstrated God’s great love for us who were sinners!

Rejoicing in Amazing Love:  “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this:  While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  Since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through Him!  For if, when we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through His life.”  (Romans 5:8-10)
