Scripture reading for September 9th: Isaiah 41-44, 1st Corinthians 12
1st Corinthians 12: 4-11 “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God Who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another interpretation of tongues. All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, Who apportions to each on individually as He wills.”
God the Father has showered His born-again children with the Gift of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit brings gifts that are to be used to build up and encourage the Church, Christ’s corporate Body. These gifts are called ‘manifestations’ of the Holy Spirit and include speaking gifts called prophesy, tongues, and interpretation of tongues. Other gifts reveal something that is needed by believers–wisdom, knowledge and discerning of spirits. Other gifts empower believers to do God’s works of compassion for the hurting and to evangelize: gifts of faith, various healings, and the working of miracles. Each of these gifts are given by the one Holy Spirit as He wills and God directs for His purposes and glory. Amen!
1st Corinthians 12:27-28 “Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. And God has appointed in the Church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues.”
Prayer: Father, thank You for the Gift of the Holy Spirit to live in me. I desire You to use me with any of the gifts of the Holy Spirit to show Your love and compassion to those in Your Body, the Church or to those who are in need of a Savior. Thank You for appointing gift people to the Church and me as a pastor/teacher. Open doors for each member of Your Church through the Holy Spirit to flow in gifts for the common good.
Isaiah 44:2-4 “Thus says the Lord Who made you, Who formed you from the womb and will help you: Fear not, O Jacob My servant, Jeshurun whom I have chosen. for I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon your offspring and my blessing on your descendants.”
