Praise the Lord O my Soul!
Scripture reading for June 21: Psalms 98-103
Psalm 101:1-3 “I will sing of the steadfast love and justice; to You, O Lord, I will make music. I will ponder the way that is blameless. Oh when will You come to me? I will walk with integrity of heart within my house; I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. . .“
Psalm 101 praises God for His love and His justice. Both of these character traits work together to reveal the holiness of God’s character. Love without justice is some sentimental emotion that lacks integrity. Justice without love is harsh and bitter. Balanced as they are in God’s character, we can only worship Him and sing praise! This holy fear of God’s justice caused the psalmist to be careful with his own life and character. He sought to live a blameless life because he did not know when God might come in judgment. He vowed to keep his eyes from vile things. He knew this would defile his heart. He hated evil and sought to live in truth and surround himself with those who were faithful. He promised to eliminate from his house any who were false or wicked. We would do well to apply these simple standards!
Psalm 103:2-5 “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits, Who forgives all your iniquity, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from the pit, Who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, Who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
This psalm comes from the depths of a soul who loves God and is purposely remembering why he must praise Him! God forgives us all of our sins! He not only forgives our sins, but forgets them and removes them far away! (Psalm 103:12) God also heals all of our diseases and sicknesses! God redeems our life from the pit–a place of destruction and punishment! He also renews our youth and satisfies our desires with good things from His house! He works righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed. God is a loving Father and we are his special children. His love promises us that though our life is short and tender, we who fear Him will enjoy that love forever and ever! (Psalm 103:14-17)
Have you praised God for His great love and justice? Are you ready to be called before Him? Have you thanked Him for all His blessings? What steps can you apply from these psalms in your life of worship?
“It is done!”
Scripture reading for December 22nd: Job 21-23, Psalm 101, Revelation 16
Revelation 16: 17-21 “The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple, from the throne, saying, “It is done!” And there were flashes of lighting, rumblings, peals of thunder, and a great earthquake such as there had never been since man was on the earth, so great was that earthquake. The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell, and God remembered Babylon the great, to make her drain the cup of the wine of the fury of His wrath. And every island fled away, and no mountains were to be found. And great hailstones, about one hundred pounds each, fell from heaven on people; and they cursed God for the plague of hail, because the plague was so severe.”
The seven angels decked in white pour out the bowls of wrath of God upon the earth. When the seventh angel poured out his bowl on the air, a Voice from the throne cries out, “It is done!”. This reminds us of Jesus Christ Who cried out in His last utterance from the cross, “It is finished!” (John 19:30) Jesus Christ took the final bowl of God’s wrath in His own body on the cross on behalf of lost sinners. He did what no man could do! At His final words from the cross, there was an earthquake and the temple veil was torn from top to bottom. Here, after that pattern, there is a great earthquake that levels al mountains and causes the downfall of all nations and earthly kingdoms. From the tabernacle in heaven these final bowls of wrath bring the just judgements of God upon the unrepentant of earth. If only they looked to Jesus in faith!
Psalm 101:1-3 “I will sing of steadfast love and justice; to You, O Lord, I will make music. I will ponder the way that is blameless. O when will You come to me? I will walk with integrity of heart within my house; I will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me.”
Prayer: Father God, I sing today of Your steadfast love and justice! Your way is blameless and Your amazing Word is eternal Truth! Your Word in Jesus has brought mercy to me and others who humbly believe. You will in righteousness judge those on earth who have rejected Your offer of mercy and eternal life. Open doors for me today to share the Good News of Your steadfast love and justice in Jesus Christ.
Job 23:12-14 “I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the Words of His mouth more than my portion of food. But He is unchangeable, and who can turn Him back? What He desires, that He does. For He will complete what He appoints for me, and many such things are in His mind.”
