The Radiance of God’s Glory!
Scripture reading for February 17th: Exodus 38-40, Hebrews 1
Key Scriptures: Exodus 40:33-35 “. . so Moses finished the work. Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle. And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud settled on it, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.”
The Israelites had willingly brought offerings of gold and other prescribed materials and willing and skilled workers had completed the task set out for them by the Lord through Moses. The tabernacle and all its furnishing was completed and set up exactly according to the pattern. Then, miraculously, the cloud of God’s glory covered and filled the tent of meeting. Moses was not able to enter this awesome display of God’s presence in their midst!
Faith Confession and prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for this description of Your presence with the Israelites. I am humbled that in the New Testament, Your glory fills a new “tent of meeting”–the bodies of believers in Jesus. Please allow the glory of Your Son to be seen through my life!
Hebrews 1:1-3 “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed the heir of all things, through whom also He created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature, and He upholds the universe by the Word of His power. After making purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, . . .”
The Counsel of God Stands!
Scripture reading for October 12th: Isaiah 46-49, Hebrews 1
Key Scriptures: Hebrews 1:1-3 “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, Whom He appointed the heir of all things, through Whom also He created the world. He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature, and He upholds the universe by the word of His power. After making purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, . . .”
The writer of Hebrews loves to tie Old and New Testaments together. In the past, God spoke by the prophets concerning things to come. Now, God speaks to us by His Son. The Son is the exact representation of God. The Son is the Creator and Upholder of the universe! The Son made a sacrifice of His blood to purify us from sin. The Son is now seated at God’s right hand! We must listen to the Son! His counsel will stand!
Isaiah 46:9-10 ” . . .remember the former things of old, for I am God, and there is no other; I am God and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all My purpose.'”
Prayer: Lord, thank You for speaking to Your people through the prophets of old concerning things coming. Thank You for speaking today through Your Son! Help me listen and obey. Amen.
Jesus–God’s final Word!
Scripture reading for October 13th: Hebrews 1
Key Scriptures for over-comers: Hebrews 1:1-3 “In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful Word.”
God, the Father, is a God who is active in the creation and spoke by revelation to man. In earlier times God spoke through the prophets. Prophets were anointed men and women who spoke as God spoke to them through direct conversation, visions, or dreams. But the writer of Hebrews declares that God’s final Words come from His own Son, Jesus Christ! In fact, He is the Word made flesh and is the embodiment of God’s nature and glory. His Son sustains all creation and the universe by His Word!
Observations for over-comers: Over-comers recognize God’s Son as God’s revelation of Himself to us in these last days and are sustained by His powerful Word! “I will bow down toward your holy temple and will praise Your Name for Your love and Your faithfulness, for You have exalted above all things Your Name and Your Word.” (Psalm 138:2)
Is there any word from the Lord?
Scripture reading for August 14th: Jeremiah 37-39
“Jeremiah was put in a vaulted cell in a dungeon, where he remained for a long time. Then King Zedekiah sent for him and had him brought to the palace, where he asked him privately, “Is there any word from the Lord?” “Yes,” Jeremiah replied, “you will be handed over to the king of Babylon.” Jeremiah 37:16-17
Jeremiah was in prison for giving an unpopular word to the kings of Judah about God’s coming judgment. None of the kings of Judah wanted to hear Jeremiah’s words. King Zedekiah really did not want to hear of coming judgment but instead hoped for a word of peace and safety! When he sent again for Jeremiah, he was not receptive to the truth of the coming judgment that Jeremiah gave him. God’s word cannot be changed because He cannot lie!
Today, people are running around looking for a “word from the Lord”. They go to conferences and seek out those with prophetic gifts. They want to hear the latest prophetic predictions but often are not obeying what has already been spoken and written from the Lord. If we have been ignoring simple truths, how can we be sure we will be given additional truth? In the last days there will be a famine, not for bread or water, but for hearing the word of the Lord! (Amos 8:11-12)
Jesus Christ Himself is the last word from God for the world. He offers grace and forgiveness of sins to all who will repent and believe on Him. He promises salvation, healing and eternal life. Have you responded to this word or do you expect something different? Are you curious but not ready to respond? Today is the only day you know for sure that this Word will be available!

When times are tough, many people are curious about what the Lord might be saying. When you haven’t listened to His word for a long time and have tried to silence the voice of God in your life, it is not easy to hear properly again. God knows the motives behind our questions. They may sound like we want to hear, but may be mere curiosity. Such was this question from King Zedekiah. He sounded sincere–like he wanted to know and understand what the Lord was saying–but really did not believe that what Jeremiah said was true.
Sometimes we have another reason for wanting to hear another word from the Lord. We may hope that God has changed His mind or given a new word. None of the last kings of Judah wanted to hear Jeremiah’s word from the Lord. He was in prison because of preaching that word of coming judgment. In the coming days, a plot to kill Jeremiah came from some of the king’s officials and King Zedekiah did nothing to stop them. He really did not want to hear the word of coming judgment. He was hoping for a word of peace and safety.
Today, people are running around looking for a “word from the Lord”. They go to conferences and seek out those with prophetic gifts. They want to hear the latest prophetic predictions. They want guidance and direction. We each must check our motives and ask ourselves if we are obeying what has already been spoken and written from the Lord. If we have been ignoring simple truths, how can we be sure we will be given truth? In the last days there will be a famine, not for bread or water, but for hearing the word of the Lord! Yes, there is a final word from the Lord for these last days; Jesus Christ Himself is the last word from God for the world. He offers grace and forgiveness of sins to all who will repent and believe on Him. He promises salvation, healing and deliverance through Him alone. Have you responded to this word?
